PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating a case of alleged bribery near KLIA that has gone viral on WhatsApp.
The video, first circulated on Wednesday, was filmed by an unnamed taxi driver speaking in Tamil about policemen demanding a bribe from a Bangladeshi passenger on his way to his home country after months of unemployment here.
The taxi driver claims policemen stopped the vehicle at a roadblock but the passenger showed them his documents, which were in order.
The officer, however, said the passenger had to pay a RM 1,000 fine as he was crossing the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor border. The driver himself was let off. However, he claims the passenger was taken a distance away and extorted of RM100.
In a Facebook post, Selangor police said they were investigating the matter and thanked whoever had brought it to light.
“We are taking this issue very seriously,” they said. “We will not compromise on any form of wrongdoing, fellow officer or not.” - FMT
