KOTA KINABALU: Children returning to schools in Sabah next month will not have to undergo swab tests for Covid-19.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said it would be adequate for pupils to undergo risk assessment before entering school premises.

"The Education Ministry has outlined 'new norm 2.0 guidelines' for school operations to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among students.

"It is to ensure that the standard operating procedures issued by the National Security Council and Health Ministry are adhered to when they are at the schools or hostels," he said during a Covid-19 virtual press conference here.

As for students sitting for major examinations starting today, Masidi revealed that the data on candidates infected with Covid-19 is incomplete.

He added that the Sabah Education Department only has records that are meant for internal use.

Today, the state recorded 110 new Covid-19 cases, with one fatality in Kota Kinabalu.

Masidi said the increased number of cases is due to screening of an existing cluster in Kinabatangan, which contributed 48 cases.

"An Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be enforced at Kampung Tanah Merah in Kota Marudu from Feb 23 until March 8.

"The decision was made following an increased number of Covid-19 cases, with 57 people out of 226 testing positive." - NST
