PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is the latest to respond to Tommy Thomas’ memoir, saying the former attorney-general (AG) was simply seeking publicity and that people should not be influenced by the contents of his book.
In a Facebook post, Zahid accused Thomas of being irresponsible and attempting to affect the people’s trust in the government.
He said Thomas had broken his oath of office as AG, which was to protect government secrets even after he resigned.
“When information obtained by any office is classified as ‘top secret’, ‘secret’ or ‘confidential’, it is subject to the Official Secrets Act and should not be shared with the public,” he said.
Zahid said Thomas’ accounts on the performance of other deputy prosecutors and government officials could cause the people to have a negative perception of the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
He also said other “inaccurate” statements in the memoir were intended to slander Umno or Barisan Nasional, various individuals and political leaders. - FMT
