PETALING JAYA: Five Covid-19 cases have been detected which were linked to last month’s special Dewan Rakyat sitting, the health ministry said.

The five cases were detected on Friday.

“All five had been fully vaccinated. They only displayed minor symptoms and are under home quarantine,” the ministry said.

This brings the total number of infections linked to those at Parliament during the sitting to 30.It involves two MPs, nine aides, nine government agency officers, seven family members, two contractors and one Parliament worker.

On July 31, the special sitting, which was scheduled to end on Aug 2, was postponed following the detection of Covid-19 cases in Parliament.

The Dewan Negara sitting, set for Aug 3-5, was also postponed due to the spread of the virus.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah previously said several cases at Parliament were most likely from the Delta variant. - FMT
