Act according to your conscience, Patriot tells MPs

Patriot president Mohamed Arshad Raji says MPs must act in the best interests of the nation.

PETALING JAYA: The National Patriots Association (Patriot) has called for lawmakers to act according to their conscience and in line with the aspirations of the people.

Patriot president Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mohamed Arshad Raji said every MP had a duty to the country and it was imperative that they acted in its best interests.

“We appeal to all lawmakers, on both sides of the political divide and in both West and East Malaysia, to act conscionably,” he said in a statement in the wake of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement that he would prove his majority in Parliament in September and that the King had agreed to this.

“Patriot will condemn any move by any lawmaker taking a particular side while being driven by deceit or solely for the purpose of self-gain.

“Likewise, we condemn any form of coercion used to compel lawmakers to support any one side.”

Arshad said Muhyiddin’s declaration that Parliament would only convene in September had aggravated matters.

“Opposition lawmakers are demanding that a special Parliament sitting be called immediately to decide on the motion of confidence against the prime minister,” he said.

He said Patriot was concerned that attempts would be made to entice MPs over the next couple of weeks until Parliament sits.

Hence, the sitting should be held immediately to quickly resolve the crisis, he said. - FMT
