Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan has offered a “simple math” lesson to illustrate that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has lost majority control of the Dewan Rakyat.
The Pontian MP said after 11 Umno MPs had withdrawn their support, Muhyiddin only had 103 MPs remaining in his camp.
“Simple mathematics. It is said 31 support Mahiaddin (Muhyiddin) out of 42, thus 42 - 31 = 11 not supporting (but actually more).
“The government previously had 114. Subtract 11 and 103 MPs remain out of 222. Two have died and 220 still remain. Majority requires 110 + 1 = 111.
“Surely 103 is not more than 111. In summary, 103 is not a majority,” he said on Twitter today.
Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob claimed 31 BN parliamentarians support maintaining the Perikatan Nasional government at least until Parliament reconvenes in September.
As he read the list of MPs in favour of maintaining the existing government, however, it is found that three MPs also appeared on Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s list of MPs rejecting Muhyiddin’s leadership.
The three are:
- Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit)
- Noh Omar (Tanjong Karang)
- Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling)
Following Ismail Sabri’s press conference, Noh and Azeez had come forward to explain they had merely signed their attendance at a meeting of Umno MPs with the deputy prime minister. - Mkini
