PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian army says it is ready to accept back a sergeant who was given a dishonourable discharge if he agrees to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
According to Bernama, its chief Zamrose Mohd Zain said the army was also prepared to study a suitable scheme for personnel who decide to retire early.
On Monday, FMT reported that Sergeant Wan Ramly Wan Seman was given a dishonourable discharge for refusing to be vaccinated for Covid-19.
Wan Ramly had said he had 19 years of service under his belt without any disciplinary record.
He stands to lose his pension for which he would have qualified within 16 months, with the order for his discharge taking effect tomorrow.
The army has responded by saying that vaccination was compulsory for all personnel unless they are ineligible to receive the vaccine.
It added that anyone who violated the rule, or refused to receive the vaccine, would be subject to disciplinary action.
