Covid-19 (Aug 11) : 20,780 new cases and 211 deaths, eight states with four digit cases

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 20,780 new cases of Covid-19 today, the second highest on record.

The number of active cases is continuing on a 48-day climb while the number of Covid-19 positive patients in intensive care has dropped a significant 4 percent compared to the day before.

A total of 143,661 samples were collected in the 24-hour period ending noon today, which equates to a 14.46 percent positivity rate.

The situation outside the Klang Valley continues to deteriorate, with Sabah, Penang, Johor, and Kelantan each reporting record high cases.

Overall, eight states and territories reported four-figure cases today. Only Labuan had single digit cases.

Nationally, the R-naught is estimated to be 1.07. A R-naught of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating.

Regionally, there are no parts of the country with a R-naught of less than 1.00 except for Putrajaya and Labuan.

Deaths

Another 211 deaths due to Covid-19 were reported today. The national Covid-19 death toll has reached 11,373.

There were 16 victims who were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. 

The highest number of deaths were reported in Selangor (79), followed by Kuala Lumpur (41), Kedah (21), Johor (16), Sabah (13), Negeri Sebilan (8), Terengganu (8), Penang (7), Perak (7), Malacca (6) and Pahang (5).

Clusters

The Health Ministry is currently monitoring 1,258 active Covid-19 clusters.

Another 31 new clusters were classified today, of which 18 were workplace clusters.
