PETALING JAYA: A DAP councillor who attended a memorial for Covid-19 victims at Dataran Merdeka will be charged with disorderly conduct at court in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning.
Nalina Nair, who is also Selangor Wanita DAP secretary, said she risks a maximum fine of RM500 or six months in jail, or both, if convicted under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967.
She also said her friend, whom she identified only as “Suja”, will also be charged with the same offence.
Nalina, however, said she will not be intimidated by such tactics, which was meant to instil fear into “those of us who demand good governance and better management of this Covid-19 pandemic”.
“A fight has been brought to me and I will take it on by its horns,” she said in an Instagram post.
Last Thursday, police nabbed 31 people for attending the candlelight vigil, organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR).
Among them were #Lawan organiser Mohammad Asraf Sharaf, Undi18 co-founder Qyira Yusri and Sarah Irdina Mohamad Ariff, founder of youth-based group Misi Solidariti.
Many of them were seen being roughed up and dragged into Black Marias.
The 31, comprising 17 men and 14 women, were subsequently slapped with a RM2,000 fine each. - FMT
