Ex-Jerantut MP quits Bersatu, rejoins Umno

Former Jerantut MP Tengku Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar has rejoined Umno after announcing his resignation as Bersatu’s Temerloh division chief with immediate effect today.

Umno Online reported that Azlan (above) submitted his membership application to join the Paya Besar division to Pahang Umno chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

“As Malaysians, we must defend our constitution regardless of political beliefs.

“We should uphold parliamentary democracy and the constitutional monarchy based on what has been recorded in the Rukun Negara and the federal constitution is the highest law of the land,” said the former deputy minister.

“I take this opportunity to submit my membership form to the Pahang Umno chief and I chose to be a Paya Besar Umno division member.

“I also thank Paya Besar Umno chief Ahmad Tajuddin Sulaiman and the division members for their willingness to accept me as a member,” he was quoted as saying.

Azlan also said he decided to rejoin Umno out of belief in the party’s role in the Malay-Muslim struggle.

He also reiterated Wan Rosdy’s reported view that the emergency proclamation and ordinance should have been tabled in Parliament before it was annulled.

Azlan was replaced with incumbent Jerantut MP Ahmad Nazlan Idris as BN’s candidate in 2013’s 13th general election, having previously held the seat for three terms since 1999.

He left Umno after GE14 in 2018 to join Bersatu, which was then part of Pakatan Harapan. - Mkini
