Former chief secretary to the government Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid passed away at 1.40am today.
Ahmad Sarji, who had been awarded the Tun title, was 82.
His passing was announced by current chief secretary Mohd Zuki Ali in a post on Facebook.
"My condolences to the whole family of Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid on the death of the deceased who passed away on Aug 28, 2021, at 1.40am.
"He was the former chief secretary who served from 1990 to 1996 and a highly respected public service administrator figure while in service.
"His death is a great loss for the nation through the service and devotion that he has given over the years," Mohd Zuki wrote.
The late Ahmad Sarji was born on Sept 16, 1938 in Perak and leaves behind a wife and five children.
The Star reported that on Aug 7, Ahmad Sarji was admitted to the intensive care unit at Hospital Cancelor Tuanku Muhriz (UKM) in Cheras due to complications from Covid-19.
