Harapan lists 4 areas of reforms for new PM

The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has urged newly-minted Prime Minister Ismail Sabri to focus his efforts on four main issues, that are fiscal, institutional and legal reforms as well as reforms to the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

“As the former government led by ex-prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has failed to handle all sorts of issues including Covid-19, and seeing as the new cabinet is about to be formed, Pakatan Harapan is of the opinion that the prime minister should look into these highlighted issues for the sake of the rakyat and the country,” the Harapan presidential council said in a statement today.

They added that they’ve been bringing up these issues since last year in order to save the rakyat and the country from the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the political and economic crises.

The four major areas of reform they are calling for are as follows:

  1. Reform and improve the NRP by ensuring the implementation of a FTTIS+V (find, test, trace, isolate and support plus vaccinate) public screening programme and ensure additional support is given to the public healthcare system.

  2. Fiscal reform by increasing the amount of aid for the rakyat including a RM45 billion direct injection to workers, businesses and the healthcare sector, as well as implementing bank loan moratoriums with zero interest

  3. Institutional reforms through the empowerment of Parliament by enacting the Parliamentary Services Act, strengthening the Parliament’s check and balance system as well as acknowledging the role of the opposition by actually involving them in the government’s efforts.

  4. Legal reforms, including the implementation of Undi18 and an Anti-Hopping Act.  - Mkini
