PETALING JAYA: Despite facing a RM1 million defamation suit, Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam will not stop her efforts to make schools safer for students.
“What I really want is safety in schools. I have no intention to insult or defame any party or teacher. It is our right as students to feel safe at school,” she told reporters after giving her statement at the Sungai Buloh police headquarters this evening.
Ain also thanked Malaysians for showing their support for her.
Ain, who was pivotal in getting the #MakeSchoolASaferPlace hashtag to trend on social media, claimed in April that her school physical fitness and health education teacher jokingly encouraged his students at SMK Puncak Alam, Selangor, to commit rape.
After news of this went viral, the education ministry said the teacher had been transferred to the state education department.
Following the incident, she received a rape threat from a male classmate and she was also described as “anak setan pakai tudung” (a child of the devil wearing a headscarf) on the Facebook page of her school principal.
This week, she was hit with a RM1 million defamation suit filed by the teacher who made the rape joke.
In response, Ain is filing a RM5 million countersuit, claiming intentional infliction of emotional stress by insulting her modesty.
She, along with her father were also summoned to the Sungai Buloh police headquarters today to have their statements taken. - FMT
