JOHOR BARU: Johor Baru City Council mayor Datuk Adib Azhari Daud has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly taking bribes from contractors as inducement to approve projects.
The 60-year-old was arrested at the Johor MACC office at 3pm Tuesday (Aug 10).
Adib allegedly accepted the bribes when he was mayor of the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), before taking his current position as MBJB mayor.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest.
"The remand application will be made Wednesday (Aug 11) at the Magistrate's Court here," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act. - Star
