PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has left Istana Negara, some 30 minutes after arriving for his audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Muhyiddin who arrived at 12.23pm left the palace at 1.01pm. It is understood that he will be holding a press conference soon.

His audience today follows widespread speculation that he will be submitting his resignation.

Earlier this morning, he met with his Cabinet ministers at a high-level meeting at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Mohd Redzuan Yusof confirmed yesterday that Muhyiddin had expressed the intention to hand in his resignation after admitting to losing his majority support.

Attorney-General Idrus Harun and Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani were seen entering the palace before Muhyiddin’s arrival.

Muhyiddin waved to members of the media at the Istana main gate.

On Friday, the prime minister, who had come under fire over the management of the Covid-19 pandemic and the revocation of the emergency ordinances, proposed a framework for bipartisan political cooperation, admitting that he lost majority support.

However, Pakatan Harapan, Umno, Warisan, MUDA, Upko, Pejuang and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) rejected the overtures while calling for his resignation. - FMT
