Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has called on all political appointees in GLCs who were appointed by outgoing prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin to resign along with the man who put them in their posts.
Nik Nazmi said it’s the proper and honourable thing to do.
"With Muhyiddin’s resignation, it is only right that his political appointees in the various GLCs, GLICs and other bodies immediately tender their resignations as well.
"This is the proper and honourable thing to do.
"With the resignation, their reasons and legitimacy to stay on in their posts have come to an end as well," Nik Nazmi said in a Facebook post today.
He said most of these bodies are professionally run and so any disruption should be minimal.
"However, Malaysia’s new government must commit to filling these positions professionally and based on merit rather than purely political considerations," he added.
Numerous Perikatan Nasional MPs were appointed as heads of GLCs, government agencies, and newly-created diplomatic positions in the first two months of Muhyiddin taking over last year.
Most of these positions were filled by technocrats in the past suggesting that politics, not merit, was the main consideration.
A handful of the political appointees, such as Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin, resigned their positions recently in the run-up to Muhyiddin's own departure.
