No further action for Fahmi Reza's #dengkike sedition case

The Attorney-General’s Chambers have decided not to prosecute artist Fahmi Reza, who was arrested for sedition over satirical artwork using the image of the queen.

The work, referred to as #DengkiKe (Are you jealous?), saw him satirising Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Mainumah Iskandariah’s comment on social media, using the same phrase.

“Good news! Remember how I was arrested under the Sedition Act and held in the lock up for the satirical work #DengkiKe using the image of the queen?

“Today police told me the investigation paper has been referred to the AGC and my case has been classified as NFA! No further action! Victory!” he tweeted.

He also posted a selfie in front of the national police headquarters.

In the satirical piece published in April, Fahmi compiled a list of 101 songs themed on jealousy, on the music streaming platform, Spotify.

The 101th song on the list was punk band Sex Pistol’s “God Save The Queen”.

The six-hour playlist is called “This is Dengki Ke?” and uses the official portrait of the Queen as its cover.

It has been liked 2,500 times and is still accessible on Spotify.

Besides sedition, he was also investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which deals with improper use of network facilities.

Tunku Azizah had used the phrase “dengki ke?” when responding to a social media commenter who asked if her chefs were also vaccinated.

This was a comment under a photo of the queen with the palace kitchen staff, which Tunku Azizah uploaded on her Instagram account @airtangan_tunkuazizah.

She later deactivated her Instagram account.

This happened soon after website Asia Sentinel published an article alleging the royal family had received Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccination from the United Arab Emirates, ahead of other Malaysian citizens in the National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme.

It was also alleged the royal family received 2,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines from the UAE to be dispensed to their friends and family.

However, the then health minister Dr Adham Baba rubbished the report and said the claims are defamatory. - Mkini
