IPOH: Police have reopened an investigation into an assault on a security guard at a swimming pool of a condominium here following his death yesterday eight months after the assault.
Two video recordings of the assault have gone viral. They show a man accompanied by his son assaulting a security guard with a table until he fainted.
The victim died yesterday, and a post-mortem showed the cause to be a lung infection but the family disputed the post-mortem finding, saying his death was a result of the assault in December. They also reposted recordings and photos of the incident, Bernama reported.
Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the incident happened on Dec 29. A suspect was remanded and the investigation found that the incident happened after the suspect was upset with the guard for not allowing the suspect’s son to use the swimming pool which was not open to the public at that time.
“He was charged in the magistrates’ court on Jan 6 for causing grievous hurt. The case is scheduled to be mentioned again on Sept 9 for sentencing,” he said in a statement here today.
He said the guard died at his home yesterday and a post-mortem found the cause of death was due to a lung infection (sepsis).
However, the victim’s family members were dissatisfied and claimed that the cause of death was due to the assault incident.
“Based on this new evidence, the police will refer the investigation paper on the case to the Perak deputy public prosecutor’s office for further instructions,” he said.
He also advised the public not to speculate on the case as it was still in court proceedings. - FMT
