SHAH ALAM: Politicians will not be given a licence to preach Islam in mosques and suraus in Selangor, says menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

He said the decision was made by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) on April 6.

“Individuals with the status of politician will not be given a licence to preach Islam in Selangor.

“MAIS decided on April 6 that any politician who has a teaching credential can do so until the expiration of the validity of their credential, provided that they deliver talks without mentioning subjects on (political) parties, associating certain individuals.

“They must not spread slander and must maintain the morals and dignity of the mosque and surau,” he said at the state assembly sitting today.

Amirudin was answering a question from Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri (PH-Taman Medan) on the status of politicians who were given credentials to teach the religion.

He said 31 politicians still hold credentials to preach and their accreditation will expire a year from the date of approval. - FMT
