Protect your students, get vaccinated, Johor sultan tells teachers

PETALING JAYA: Teachers should get vaccinated as soon as possible to set a good example and to keep children safe when schools reopen, said the Sultan of Johor.

Schools in the state are set to begin physical classes in stages on Oct 2, and it was reported that 779 teachers in Johor had declined to be vaccinated.

“Teachers should be setting an example to their students and protecting them, instead of placing students in danger, what more with schools expected to reopen soon. My family and I have completed our vaccination doses,” Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar said in a statement today.

This comes after Johor education, information, heritage and culture committee chairman Mazlan Bujang said he would meet with teachers who had turned down their vaccinations to reinforce the benefits of immunisation.

Sultan Ibrahim also renewed calls for people not to be swayed by anti-vaxxers.

“Trust our certified medical professionals. Those rejecting vaccination without any valid reasons are just opening themselves to the risk of getting infected.

“I hope all Johoreans will be vaccinated as soon as possible so we can return to our jobs, businesses and normal lives,” he added. - FMT
