Register our party and carry out Undi18 first, says Muda man

 

Mutalib Uthman questions if Ismail Sabri Yaakob is serious about listening to the young people.

PETALING JAYA: New prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has been urged to approve the registration of the proposed Muda party, and to execute Undi18 constitutional amendments if he is serious in restoring the country’s situation.

Muda’s pro-tem vice-president Mutalib Uthman said that the prime minister must be sincere about making offers to opposition members.

“We do not want to see the situation where the government invites us to sit in a committee on restoring the country but on the other hand no allocations were given to us until the MP has to shave his head,” he said, making reference to a fund-raising campaign by party founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Mutalib also pointed out that if Ismail is sincere in listening to young people’s voices, he should execute Undi18 (to allow voting at the age of 18) without delay.

“Everyone loves Malaysia and we want to move away from this pandemic. We hope that this National Recovery Council and the Covid-19 Special Task Force do not end up like the special committee on the state of Emergency where the members themselves have no idea that the emergency ordinances were being revoked,” he added.

Muda’s application to be registered as a political party was turned down earlier this month by then home minister Hamzah Zainudin. - FMT
