KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, will convene a special meeting with the Malay Rulers on Friday to discuss the formation of a new government and the appointment of a new prime minister.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin confirmed the matter with Berita Harian.
He said Istana Negara would come out with a statement today.
Yesterday, party chiefs from PKR, DAP, Amanah, Umno, PAS and Pejuang had a two-hour audience with the King and his deputy, the Sultan of Perak.
The audience came after Muhyiddin Yassin resigned as the prime minister on Monday.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had said the King called for leaders to work together to address the Covid-19 and economic crises, and to leave behind “politics of the old”.
MPs are expected to be submitting their chosen candidate for prime minister to Istana Negara by 4pm today. - FMT
