Step out of the shadows, MPs, and make your stand now

From Clement Stanley

Summer days can be very long, especially when you are waiting for September to arrive.

That is when Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will leave it to 220 MPs to decide his fate and that of the Perikatan Nasional-led government as per his announcement on Aug 4.

In the meantime, the nation holds its breath.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Our MPs should stop acting like a bunch of cowards and smooth-talking politicians. It’s time to show the real you and what you stand for. Now is the time for you to step forward and stand tall.

There is no need to wait for September. If you have any guts, come clean. You owe the people of Malaysia this much.

Enough of these hide and seek games. Why should you wait for September to arrive before stating your stand for the nation to see?

Leave if you do not support Muhyiddin and the PN-led government as Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li) has done. Quit as minister of energy and natural resources as Shamsul Anuar Nasarah has done. It’s as simple as that.

The opposition is calling for Muhyiddin to quit now since they believe the PM does not have the numbers to support him. The PM on the other hand believes he has the numbers and is willing to prove it when Parliament sits in September. Great. But who do we believe?

If the MPs step out in the open now like worms normally do in woodwork, come September, we will know who exactly has become a turncoat in less than 50 days.

Together we can praise their actions or shame them. We will know who has sold out to either the PM or the opposition. We will know who are men of honour and who are no more than spineless lalang with no principles or integrity. If you have nothing else to give us, at least give us the respect we deserve.

If you do this now, you will be answering the question on everyone’s lips, which is, has the PM lost his battle to remain where he is – the leader of this nation?

If you do this now, the opposition need no longer call for Muhyiddin’s resignation before Parliament sits because it would be no more than a futile exercise.

If you do it now, whatever happens in the next 50 days will just be poetry in motion. The sooner we get over this uncertainty, the better for everyone.

If you do it now, you smoke out those who believe they have a bargaining chip up their sleeves to get out of jail.

This is not a game of Monopoly. This affects us economically, emotionally and physically. This is the stark truth with which we must come face to face for the betterment of the nation.

Do it now and you have added value to your being. You will earn not just the respect of your contemporaries and your voters, but more importantly, you will emerge a clear winner come what may.

There is nothing in law to prevent you from stepping out of the shadows. Stop asking for the PM’s resignation. Ask yourself what is best for the country, then decide. Either way, a dark cloud will be lifted and clearer skies will emerge.

Just come clean. It is good for the soul. - FMT
