Syed Saddiq claims deputy minister tried to coax him to back PN, Muhyiddin

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman today claimed that Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal tried to persuade him to support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The former youth and sports minister made the claim after he was hit with two fresh charges at the Johor Bahru Sessions Court.

These charges add to Syed Saddiq’s other two charges previously levelled against him at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on July 22

On that day, he claimed trial to two counts involving alleged misappropriation of RM1.12 million of funds belonging to his former party, Bersatu. He used to be the party’s youth wing chief, with the party post now held by Wan Fayhsal.

The Muar MP today alleged that prior to his court cases (he did not specify which one), he was visited by Wan Fayhsal, who purportedly tried to get him to back Muhyiddin and the PN administration.

Muhyiddin is also Bersatu president.

“It is strange that the same party (Bersatu), which claimed I stole their money (and committed) CBT (criminal breach of trust) in 2018 before the GE (14th general election), its youth chief and deputy (youth and sports) minister Wan Fayhsal came to my house before I was charged, to coax me to support PN and PM Muhyiddin.

“If I had stolen the party’s funds, why ask for my support?

“It is akin to a CEO who stole company funds, but at the same time, the company wants to maintain (the CEO). If money has been stolen, why maintain (the CEO)? (The CEO) should be dismissed," Syed Saddiq contended.

“With this political pressure, I will not give in as I believe I am on the right side. In the end, I firmly believe that the truth will prevail and I will fight on, the best way I can,” he added.

He was speaking to the media outside the Johor Bahru Courts Complex after he claimed trial to the two new charges.

A video of the press conference was posted on his official Facebook.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, Wan Fayhsal said he would be issuing a statement later in regard to Syed Saddiq’s allegation.

Late last night through his Twitter account, Syed Saddiq raised a similar claim.

His tweet was in response to Wan Fayhsal's, which contained an allegation in relation to the misappropriation charges.

The allegation involves Bersatu Youth’s financial record-keeping and governance, among others. - Mkini
