The truth will prevail, says Syed Saddiq as he faces more charges

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will be in court tomorrow to face money laundering charges by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

PETALING JAYA: Former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says those who want to threaten him are free to do so but he will not fall under pressure.

“The truth will prevail,” he said in a tweet in response to an earlier post by Bersatu Youth wing chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal on the former’s court cases.

This comes after reports that Syed Saddiq is set to face more charges by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) tomorrow morning.

It is believed that Syed Saddiq will be charged under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla).

“The same party that is accusing me of stealing its money, sent its Armada chief to persuade me to support the prime minister several days before I was charged,” he said in a one-minute video posted today, referring to the alternative name for the Bersatu Youth wing.

However, Syed Saddiq added that he would not abandon his principles for power.

The Muar MP, while confirming his court date tomorrow, said he entered politics for a good cause and will not allow bribes to weaken his spirit.

“I am not afraid to face them and I will fight all of them,” he said, adding that the truth will prevail.

Two weeks ago, Syed Saddiq pleaded not guilty to misappropriating RM1 million belonging to Bersatu Youth at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court.

He was slapped with one charge under Section 405 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust (CBT) over the allegation that he had withdrawn RM1 million in party funds from the bank without the consent of the top leadership.

If found guilty, he will face a jail term not exceeding 10 years and whipping and also be liable to a fine. - FMT
