Warisan rubbishes claims it has thrown support behind govt

PETALING JAYA: Warisan has rubbished claims it has decided to support the Perikatan Nasional-led (PN) government, after a statement with the party’s letterhead made the rounds on social media.

The statement, which the Sabah-based party has declared false, claimed that Warisan president Shafie Apdal had made the call to back the government following an emergency meeting yesterday afternoon, during which it discussed the Umno Supreme Council’s decision to officially pull its support for the Muhyiddin Yassin-led administration.

However, party secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr denied this in a Facebook post early today.

He also wondered if the statement was linked to the government’s Community Communications Department (JKOM).

“The Perikatan Nasional government in the budget allocated millions of the people’s money to be used by JKOM, and this is the result.”

A similar fake statement expressing support for the government was shared last night purporting to be from opposition party Pejuang, but this, too, was denied by party president Mukhriz Mahathir.

The false statements come after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Umno Supreme Council had decided the party would pull out from the PN-led government, which has called into question the government’s majority. - FMT
