Prof Zaliman Sauli has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), effective Aug 9.
Zaliman, 54, takes over from Prof R Badlishah Ahmad who has held the post since 2019.
The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE), in a statement today, said Zaliman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, a Master’s of Science Degree in Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Devices from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microelectronic Engineering from UniMAP in 2012.
“In line with his experience in various portfolios, Zaliman has contributed to enhancing graduate marketability, empowering academic staff through professional qualifications and industry experience, and gaining recognition for academic courses at the university through Setara, QS World University Subject Ranking and THE World University Ranking,” the statement read.
MOHE added that Zaliman was also involved in intensifying UniMAP’s income generation activities to ensure financial sustainability, as well as implementing impactful programmes involving the university and the community through the “unimap4society” concept.
With his experience and expertise, Zaliman was entrusted to lead various associations and councils such as chairman of EEE Electron Devices Society Malaysia Chapter 2009-2010 Session, chairman of Public University Entrepreneurship Council, chairman of Public University Health Council and chairman of Public University PALAPES Council Secretariat.
“With the vision to lead UniMAP as a technical university that is competitive at the international level and produce holistic graduates, the ministry believes that Zaliman is capable of shouldering this responsibility and continuing UniMAP’s leadership excellence,” said MOHE.
