Crowdfunding campaign launched to help Loh buy a food truck

Several groups and well-meaning individuals have launched a campaign to help single mother Loh Siew Hong purchase a food truck so that she can run her own business.

Ex-ambassador Noor Farida Ariffin in a message said a crowdfunding campaign has been set up to help Loh buy a food truck.

Loh (above), a chef, is planning to operate the food truck in Kuala Lumpur to support herself and her three children.

“My friend, Hartini Zainuddin, who runs the Chow Kit Children’s Shelter has agreed to do it,” said Noor Farida.

“I will be meeting up with Hartini sometime next week to discuss it,” she added.

Noor Farida said the cost of the food truck is RM27,000 but her friends are planning to collect  RM50,000 to also help pay tuition fees for Loh's children.

Hartini is helping Loh to get online tuition for the kids.

“She told Hartini that she has bought beds for the children. All these cost money,” Noor Farida said.

“Many of my friends are donating because they feel sorry for her after what she has been through,” Noor Farida added.

“My friends of all races are donating to her.”

Kindness will be remembered forever

When contacted, Loh said she was very touched by the help received from the public.

“So far, I have collected about RM10,000. I thank everyone for their kindness in helping me and my three kids,” she told Malaysiakini.

“I will remember their kindness forever and may God bless them for their kind hearts,” added the 35-year-old chef who is currently on unpaid leave from her employer in Genting Highlands.

Loh recently won her habeas corpus application and the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered her children to be reunited with her.

Her twins - 14-year-old daughters - and son, 10, had been under the care of the Perlis Welfare Department after they were unilaterally converted to Islam.

Malaysiakini reported that Loh was a victim of abuse by her drug addict ex-husband, who is currently serving a two-year jail sentence in Machang, Kelantan.

He is expected to be released in November.
