PETALING JAYA: All the 10 executive councillors in Melaka who were sworn in today will have deputies, says chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh.
According to Bernama, Rauf said the deputy exco members will be named tomorrow after the state executive council holds its first meeting.
Describing the composition of the deputy exco members as “attractive”, he said it allows assemblymen in the government bloc to play a more prominent role in the administration of the state.
Rauf dismissed the notion that having deputy exco members was a waste of state funds, saying it depended on the state government’s effectiveness.
He said having deputy exco members for all 10 portfolios was in line with the need to develop the state.
“Right now, I need all the assemblymen to show that no one does not have a role to play in helping me develop Melaka,” he said.
Rauf, who is also the Melaka Umno chief, said Melaka had entered into a “new political era” and political maturity.
The exco members were sworn in earlier, including three new faces – DAP’s Seah Shoo Chin (Kesidang) as well as Barisan Nasional’s Fairul Nizam Roslan (Asahan) and Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer (Ayer Limau).
Two assemblymen – Zaidi Attan (Serkam) and Jailani Khamis (Rembia) – were dropped from the lineup. - FMT
