Be quiet and retire completely, Puad tells Kit Siang

Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has hit out at DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang who had made critical statements recently about Najib Razak.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has suggested that DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang should retire from politics completely and stay silent, stating that this would help strengthen the unity government.

Puad said Lim represented the “old DAP” ways which the Malays did not like. He suggested that Lim should let Loke Siew Fook (the party’s secretary-general) do the work.

Lim had announced in March last year that he was retiring from active politics.

However, he had recently made critical statements about Umno’s decision to seek a royal pardon for former prime minister Najib Razak who is serving a jail term for corruption.

He had also claimed that Najib would be unable to revive Umno’s glory days after the party’s defeats in two general elections.

Puad said in a Facebook post today that “the unity government will be better if Lim Kit Siang shuts his mouth and retires fully. He (Lim) is the ‘bearer’ of DAP’s old philosophy that the Malays don’t like. Let Anthony Loke do the work.”

Puad said Lim’s statements against Najib were hypocritical considering Lim’s silence about the corruption case involving his son, Guan Eng, and the scandal surrounding human resources minister V Sivakumar involving the recruitment of foreign workers.

“It’s only been five months and they’ve created problems. This will bring down the unity government,” said Puad.

This morning, Lim said he wanted only the best for Umno in the coming state elections. “I want the Anwar unity government to succeed which means I want Umno to be stronger than both PAS and Bersatu,” he said.

Umno and DAP (as part of Pakatan Harapan) are partners in Anwar Ibrahim’s coalition government, which also includes parties from Sabah and Sarawak. The opposition is formed by Perikatan Nasional, comprising Bersatu and PAS. - FMT
