A convention organised by the Coalition Government Women’s Leadership Consultative Council will be held at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur on May 14.
In a statement, the council said that the women’s convention will focus on empowering women leaders and raising awareness of their important role in Malaysia's future.
It also is part of the larger national convention led by the coalition government, which will be held on the same day and at the same venue.
“The convention will also use the same theme of 'Malaysia Madani: Facing Malaysia's Future' by focusing on the economic agenda, nation-building and the role of women in the country.
“The council hopes that, through this convention, it can strengthen the agenda of the coalition government with Malaysia Madani,” the council said.
Strengthening collaboration
The council members consist of women leaders from all parties under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.
The announcement of the convention was made after a meeting, co-chaired by Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad (above) and Amanah senator Raj Munni Sabu, was held this morning.
The aim of the meeting was to strengthen collaboration and build women's work networks across the administration.
Common direction
On March 22, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the national convention, to be attended by 20 parties under the coalition government, is to show solidarity with Anwar’s leadership.
Prior to this, Anwar reportedly said a convention involving parties in the government will be held to determine a common direction and course of action in the country’s administration.
Anwar, who is also the Pakatan Harapan chairperson, said the convention also aims to frame the same thinking and policy among the parties that make up the government. - Mkini
