PETALING JAYA: Former Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim is the new chairman of the Kedah Regional Development Authority (Keda), making him the latest politician to lead a government-linked agency.
Berita Harian reported that the appointment was confirmed by rural and regional development minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at an event in Jitra, Kedah.
“It is hoped that this appointment will strengthen the relationship between the agencies under the rural and regional development ministry and the state government,” Zahid was quoted as saying.
Azeez is taking over from Kedah Umno chief Jamil Khir Baharom who had been holding the post since August 2022.
Separately Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister said the federal and state governments must continue to work together despite differences in political ideologies to ensure problems faced by the public, including those in opposition-led states, could be resolved immediately.
He said this was not a matter of politics but a matter of cooperation and that any schism in relations must be repaired.
Zahid added that he hoped such cooperation would continue regardless of the outcome of the upcoming state elections. - FMT
