PETALING JAYA: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) are now component parties of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
GRS secretary-general Masidi Manjun said its Supreme Council unanimously approved the applications from both parties to join the coalition in a meeting this afternoon.
“GRS now has seven members – Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), United Sabah National Organisation (Usno), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), LDP and Harapan Rakyat,” he said in a statement.
LDP and Harapan Rakyat were among the four parties that applied to join GRS last year.
Meanwhile, the applications of Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat and Parti Cinta Sabah are still pending.
In February, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor assumed control over Gagasan Rakyat as its president two months after he led a group of supporters out of Sabah Bersatu.
Hajiji, who is also Sabah chief minister, said Gagasan Rakyat would be part of GRS, the state’s ruling coalition.
Gagasan Rakyat is currently the largest component party in GRS with 27 assemblymen. - FMT
