The government is expected to declare toll-free travel on major highways on April 19 and 20 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, according to well-placed sources in the government.
The sources said that a preliminary agreement was arrived at during today's cabinet meeting.
Aidilfitri is expected to fall on either Friday (April 21) or Saturday (April 22), with a moon sighting to determine the date on Thursday (April 20).
It is unclear if the toll-free dates will change if Aidilfitri falls on April 22.
There is also expected to be toll-free travel for people to return from their Hari Raya holiday although dates have not yet been fixed.
Malaysiakini has contacted Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi for comment.
Toll-free travel during Aidilfitri is an almost annual goodie announced by the government.
The government had previously declared toll-free travel during the Chinese New Year holiday in January as well. - Mkini
