Graft probe: MACC seeking CCTV footage of minister's cars

The MACC has asked the management of a condominium in Cyberjaya to turn in closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera recordings involving three cars - two of which are registered under Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar.

A source told Malaysiakini that this is to assist the anti-graft agency's investigations into migrant worker approvals, which have so far seen two of the minister's aides being detained.

"Three vehicles have become the focal point of investigations.

"The MACC has asked for CCTV recordings from March 6 to 7, 2023, as well as on April 7 and 8, 2023, showing the three vehicles - a Mercedes Benz, a Proton Perdana and a Mitsubishi Outlander," said the source.

A check revealed that the Mercedes and Mitsubishi are registered under Sivakumar's name, while the ownership of the Proton could not be ascertained.

It is learnt that MACC yesterday requested for the CCTV recordings to be handed in by today.

Malaysiakini has reached out to Sivakumar's office and the MACC on the matter and is awaiting their replies.

Looking for millions of ringgit

Meanwhile, Utusan Malaysia quoted a source as saying that the MACC is looking for millions of ringgit involved in the case.

The source also confirmed that the MACC did not find any evidence during "visits" to Sivakumar's office and home yesterday.

The source also did not rule out the possibility of the MACC recording Sivakumar's statement a second time.

Last week, the MACC nabbed a senior officer to Sivakumar, as well as the latter's private secretary, in connection with the case. The minister has reportedly suspended the duo, as well as another officer, following the MACC investigations.

Also in custody is a businessperson from Ipoh, Perak. Sivakumar himself was questioned by the graft busters on Sunday.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said yesterday that there is no need for Sivakumar to go on leave pending a probe into the case as no charges have been pressed against the human resources minister. - Mkini
