Parents allege son committed self-harm after being 'bullied' by teacher

The parents of a Form Four student at a school in Negeri Sembilan have accused a discipline teacher of bullying their son to the point where he allegedly committed self-harm.

They claimed that the incident happened after the discipline teacher forced the student to sign a declaration letter on a false account of indecent behaviour.

“He (the student) was brought to the discipline teacher where he was accused of behaving inappropriately with a female classmate.

“Then the teacher made both students sign a declaration about their ‘actions’,” Hindu Agamam Ani Malaysia Association chairperson Arun Dorasamy told reporters today.

Speaking on behalf of the student’s parents, Arun explained that the student was accused by another teacher who witnessed him talking to a female classmate alone in a classroom.

He added that the student was brought to the discipline teacher who allegedly teased the boy and proceeded to humiliate him in front of the other teachers.

“What actually happened was that the classmate handed him a birthday gift, which was also on the same day. It was a bracelet.

“He told me he felt violated and humiliated by what the discipline teacher did,” Arun said.

Shortly after, the student allegedly committed self-harm at the school on the same day.

The following day (March 22), a report against the school and the teachers was lodged at the Jempol district police station by the student’s parents.

Student allegedly expelled

On April 3, about two weeks after the incident, the school allegedly expelled the student on the basis of inappropriate behaviour.

It was said that the family was informed by the school about this via a letter.

The parents stated that they have submitted an appeal to the district education office against their son’s expulsion but they have yet to receive a response.

“The parents refuse to accept their son’s expulsion. They want to know why the school refuses to listen to his side of the story.

“They also demand a more robust investigation against the discipline teacher,” Arun said.

It was also alleged by the parents that this was not the first time the student was bullied by the discipline teacher.

According to Arun, the parents are also urging the Education Ministry to look into the matter and hold the school accountable for its actions.

He said if the school did not heed their concerns and demands, the parents will bring the matter to court.
