Clerk Sam Ke Ting said she is forever haunted by the Johor bicycle tragedy and that it would follow her even to the grave.
Speaking to the media after the Court of Appeal quashed her conviction for reckless driving this morning, the 28-year-old apologised to the families of the eight teen cyclists who died when her car hit them and several others in early 2017.
She said what happened that night was an accident and that what she said now may not be enough to comfort the families of the departed.
Clad in a black blouse and cream pants, Sam proceeded to read out the names of the eight deceased teen boys when attempting to comfort the families with her sympathies.
Those who were killed in the incident were Mohamad Azrie Danish Zulkefli, 14; Muhamad Shahrul Izzwan Azzuraimie, 14; Muhammad Firdauz Danish Mohd Azhar, 16; Fauzan Halmijan, 13; Mohamad Azhar Amir, 16; Muhammad Harith Iskandar Abdullah, 14; Muhammad Shahrul Nizam Marudin, 14; and Haizad Kasrin, 16.
She said she was constantly troubled by the matter since the incident on Feb 8, 2017 until now.
“I will forever carry the pain of the tragedy in every fibre of my being. I am haunted by the tragedy of that night.
“I believe I will bring this feeling even to the grave,” Sam told the media.
She was seen reading out her written media statement while being flanked by lead defence counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik and other members of her legal team. - Mkini
