PETALING JAYA: Sarawak has yet to decide whether to have an additional public holiday for the Aidilfitri celebration.
“Later, (we) don’t know yet,” premier Abang Johari Openg was quoted by The Borneo Post as saying.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said an additional public holiday would be declared on Monday if Aidilfitri falls on Friday.
Anwar said this would only be for the peninsula and Labuan, as Sabah and Sarawak would declare their own state holidays.
He said the additional public holiday was to make it easier for people to plan their travel to return to their hometowns.
Following Anwar’s announcement, Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor declared Friday as an additional public holiday for the state.
While Aidilfitri is tentatively fixed for April 22, the International Astronomy Centre based in the United Arab Emirates has predicted that the first day of Aidilfitri will fall on April 21. - FMT
