PETALING JAYA: Human resources minister V Sivakumar says he will not resign amid an ongoing graft probe.
Several quarters have urged Sivakumar to go on leave after he was summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as part of an ongoing investigation into the recruitment of foreign workers, which has seen three of his aides arrested.
Speaking to the New Straits Times, Sivakumar said he would abide by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s stance that there was no need for him to resign.
“The prime minister has already answered that question. Let it be. Let him decide on it,” he said when asked about repeated calls for him to step down.
On April 17, Anwar said there was no need for Sivakumar to go on garden leave as he had only been summoned to give his statement to MACC, adding that no charges had been brought against the minister.
The anti-graft agency had arrested Sivakumar’s three aides and released them after the four-day remand expired on April 17.
Sources previously told FMT that two of the three aides had returned to work while another had been suspended with pay. - FMT
