KOTA BARU: Umno has dismissed claims by Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal of a conspiracy to obtain a royal pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party has lodged a police report recently to deny the matter.
"There is no such thing (conspiracy to obtain the royal pardon for Najib) and therefore, Umno Youth has lodged a police report," he told reporters after attending a 'makan colek' event, here, last night.
Wan Fayhsal had on April 12 claimed that there is a conspiracy to obtain a royal pardon for Najib.
The Machang member of parliament said this was because a majority of the public had disagreed with any effort to free the sixth prime minister from his prison sentence.
Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence after being convicted of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and money laundering involving RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd. - NST
