PETALING JAYA: TikTok content creator Zuhan Hamzah is determined to right the “wrongs” done by politicians who constantly harp on race and religion.
Better known as “YB Tiktok”, Zuhan wants to challenge such narrow-minded thinking by uniting all Malaysians.
“Racial issues in this country start mainly from politicians as they always want to portray themselves as champions of their respective communities.
“But to me, you should be a hero for all Malaysians and not only to your own kind. If this goes on, there will be racial disharmony forever,” the 36-year old told FMT.
His determination to unite Malaysians of all creeds and colours has led to videos promoting racial harmony produced by Zuhan and his sidekick, 12-year old Sugumaran Chandran, also known as “Gumuk”,
And this is where he sets himself apart from other content creators, as his collaborator – whom he affectionately calls his “stepbrother” – is from a different community, in contrast to how other content creators work.
Zuhan is confident that platforms like TikTok can have a huge impact on uniting Malaysians. “I know my content reaches to all people because I often see preachers of all religions sharing my content.”
Zuhan said he loved helping people, adding that he needed to live up to his moniker. “As you know, YB means ‘for the people’.”
Zuhan said he had spent RM30,000 since Covid-19 lockdown days to help those in need. “Nowadays, I help people in need by using a portion of what I make from some sponsored videos I do on TikTok.”
He also said that he felt good when people approached him to hand over donations to people of a different community. “I got a call from an Indian businessman who said he wanted to contribute Hari Raya clothes to a Malay orphanage. This shows Malaysians are united.” - FMT
