PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has apologised to a YouTube content creator who accused him of pirating and misrepresenting one of his videos.
Tang Qi Yau, who runs the ‘Ah Yau Talks Politics’ YouTube channel, had lodged a police report against the Pasir Mas MP, who republished his video on his Facebook and TikTok accounts without permission.
Fadhli (above), who already credited Tang on Facebook prior to the report, acknowledged the complications and took swift action by removing the entire video from TikTok.
“I apologise if the content creator has encountered any difficulties due to this issue.
“I do not wish to confront the creator and instead appreciate his creative abilities. I hope he continues producing such videos and contributes to the growth of the creative industry in the online world within our country,” he said in a Facebook post today.
However, Fadhli disclosed that he had sought legal advice and was assured by his lawyer that the video shared on YouTube did not fall under any copyright protection and no restrictions were imposed by the creator for others to share his content.
Tang uploaded a video on July 1 where he conducted a series of vox pop interviews asking Malays in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, about Umno’s chances in the upcoming state election.
In his police report, the content creator said he learned at about 2pm on Monday that Fadhli had republished his video without his permission.
He expressed concern that it could cause others to mistake him as a Perikatan Nasional (PN) supporter.
Meanwhile, Fadhli highlighted that should the situation escalate to legal proceedings, one of the individuals featured in Tang’s video might take action against the content creator for revealing their face without their consent.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Tang thanked Fadhli for removing the video and said he does not intend to take further action.
“I want to thank Fadhli for deleting the video on TikTok, preventing any further misunderstandings.
“As for the full video on Facebook, it was posted with the link. I believe it won’t cause significant problems, so I don’t intend to take any action over it,” he said. - Mkini
