Charges won’t prevent Sanusi from contesting state polls, says PAS

PAS is ready to face whatever possibilities that may arise after the court’s decision on Sanusi Nor’s sedition case, says the party’s deputy president.

PETALING JAYA: Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor will remain a candidate for the coming state elections, says PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim said the party’s Majlis Syura decided yesterday that Sanusi has not lost his eligibility to contest since he is only facing charges in court.

“We have decided to maintain him (Sanusi) as a state election candidate. There’s no problem because his court case will only commence in October,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS is prepared to face whatever possibilities that may arise once the court reaches a decision on Sanusi’s case.

On Tuesday, Sanusi, who is also the Perikatan Nasional election director, pleaded not guilty in the Selayang sessions court to two charges of making seditious statements against royalty during a ceramah on July 11.

Both charges were framed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, upon conviction. - FMT
