Madani lost in time. What do the non-Malays think?

This is adapted from Malaysia Now here.

  • Madani not moving with times, says Shamsul Amri Baharuddin
  • Madani does not appreciate changes since 1990s
  • Madani stuck in the past, relying on slogans, narratives from 1990s
  • Shamsul said advisers did not appreciate differences since 1990s
  • Society is becoming more diverse
  • T20, M20 and B40 were not (there) in 1990s
  • slogans, messages, speeches not changed
  • Malaysia Madani introduced in 1992
  • Back then main division between Malay non-Malay
  • Madani concept backfire among Malays
  • majority Malays uncomfortable with it
  • Madani stuck between Malays and non-Malays
  • Madani criticised for expanding role of Jakim
  • gap between politics and people's understanding of issues

My Comments: The immediate concern now is how to get the Malay vote.

Announcing that JAKIM would be involved in economic planning was a one time announcement - which although it would have caused some lebais to drool - has never been mentioned again since that day. Drooling means air liur meleleh and 'economic planning' means money.  The lebais were being lured with dreams of 'economic planning'. Perhaps a finger in the cookie jar. For the lebai vote. The lebai vote is the Malay vote.

The same thing with that public rebuke against that Twitter fellow who said something nasty about the parti lebai chief. The public rebuke was just for show, another opportunity to attract the lebai and hence the Malay vote. Maybe the whole thing was staged.

Yesterday the sudden visit to the airport to be seen shaking hands, joking and laughing with the  'fellows' was again to get the Malay vote.  (The controversy at the airport is becoming another Malay versus non Malay thing. Or UMNO versus non-Malay thing).

Madani is not moving with the times. He has lost the plot. Still he wants the Malay vote.

What do the non-Malays think?

The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
