Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has approved an immediate allocation of RM6 million to fix the wall at the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB).
This comes after the elevated water levels and strong currents caused a wall at PLSB to collapse yesterday - resulting in the flooding of Kampung Lanchang, Pasir Mas.
Anwar said that there are proposals to build three spillways, including at the location of the collapsed wall.
"I don't know the cause of the collapsed wall but there are proposed steps to make temporary embankments (spillways) at three locations.
"So, around RM2 million for each location including at the location of the collapsed wall. I have approved the RM6 million request and this can be done quickly," he said during a press conference in Pasir Mas today.
Kelantan Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) acting director Marinamarican Abdullah said yesterday that the breach created by the raging waters was 20m wide.
Rantau Panjang residents had in the past complained that the PLSB project had caused more flooding in the area.
