KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested three men yesterday for assaulting an e-hailing driver at Jalan 8/3 Jalan Pandan Perdana, Ampang, on Dec 27.
Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said the three suspects, aged 25 to 48, were arrested in Ampang and Pandan Indah between 7.30pm and 9pm on Jan 3.
A bottle of pepper spray was also seized from them.
In the 12.30am incident on Dec 27, the e-hailing driver came down from his residence at Jalan 9/10 Pandan Perdana and went to meet one of the suspects at Jalan Pandan 8/3 Pandan Perdana to ask him to apologise for assaulting him earlier.
However, when he arrived there, another man suddenly attacked him and tried to strangle him.
The victim fled but was pursued by the man and five others to a playground, where he was beaten with an iron rod, kicked and punched by the suspects.
“The victim sustained injuries to his body and head,” Azam said in a statement.
All three suspects tested positive for cannabis. Two of them had previous convictions for involvement in crime.
They have been remanded for four days, starting today, and the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon. - FMT
