The new Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak, Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, arrived in Kuching today to begin his new role.
He arrived at the Kuching International Airport on a special flight, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, at 11am.
Present to welcome the couple were Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg and the two deputy premiers, Douglas Uggah Embas and Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, as well as other members of the state cabinet and community leaders.
Wan Junaidi, 77, is scheduled to take his oath as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak at the state assembly this Monday (Jan 29).
He was appointed the Yang diPertua Negeri of Sarawak by Article 1 of the Sarawak Constitution for a four-year term until Jan 26, 2028.
He takes over from Abdul Taib Mahmud, who held the post for three terms from March 1, 2014.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said the appointment of Wan Junaidi is commensurate with his service and contributions to the state and the country.
He said Wan Junaidi also has extensive experience in administration and is a law expert.
“He (Wan Junaidi) has contributed to Sarawak and Malaysia for so long. With his wealth of experience, he is an invaluable asset to Sarawak,” he told reporters at an event at Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak in Kuching today.
