Umno Youth chief on mission to catch litterbugs

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh is out on a mission to catch litterbugs.

The Merlimau assemblyperson shared a video of himself going down on the ground in his constituency, not only to pick up garbage bags thrown indiscriminately but also to find the perpetrators.

Among others, the Malacca health exco uncovered a plastic packet of flu medicine with the name “Aida”, said to be issued by a local clinic in Merlimau.

"I will find (them), I will put it in front of Cik Aida’s house,” he said.

Akmal said he had cleaned up at the same spot but there was more rubbish thrown there in less than 24 hours.

“Earlier when we cleaned up the area, it was clear. But now it’s 12.55am and suddenly there’s more,” he said.

Other rubbish found included leftovers from a festive hamper.

Stern warning

Akmal warned those who throw rubbish irresponsibly and indiscriminately that he would hunt them down.

“I wish to give a stern warning to all, don’t let it get to a point where I can catch you.

“If I find out who threw it, I will throw it back at their front door,” he said.

Akmal also questioned the public’s awareness of their duty to keep their surroundings clean.

“They want their house clean, but they throw rubbish elsewhere and dirty other sites.

“Where is our responsibility?" he said.

Akmal also said that small rubbish bins would no longer be placed along the road under the Merlimau state seat, but instead, there would be designated dumping sites. - Mkini
