YOURSAY | Appointing allies to top positions still the norm

YOURSAY | ‘Putting incompetents in positions of power will ruin the country’.

COMMENT | Political appointees: Permanent fixture in our governance

Mgpowl: Somewhere along the line, Pakatan Harapan’s number one priority and promise of reforms was cast aside in favour of economic progress.

The DAP and veteran politician Lim Kit Siang supported the latter and his plan to make Malaysia great again.

What or who was responsible for this change is apparent but not as important as this change isn’t the mandate of the people.

Even more important is the fact that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim okayed it. This means he is making decisions contrary to the people’s interests.

That is why his decisions are not democratic and why he should not remain as prime minister. An elected prime minister will always put the people first.

If he continues making more undemocratic decisions, the people will suffer. Eventually, they will stop tolerating him.

Apanama is back: The current administration is being run indirectly by Umno. Therefore, what is there to change? More political appointees are on the way.

It is a kind of reward system to ensure "my numbers are strong, convincing and formidable". What a joke! Same old, same old but getting worse.

Veteran journalist R Nadeswaran mentioned in the article that Anwar would have surpassed the records of his predecessors - Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Muhyiddin Yassin, by the time his term ends in 2027.

Thus, you know who will be the worst prime minister among the three.

Steven Ong: To have real change and reforms, the cause and foundation of all the problems and issues must be revealed and exposed.

If not, all complaints and criticism aren’t going to make a difference.

The media have a very important role to play. They must be ready to be persecuted and punished for telling the truth and exposing the crimes openly the way The Edge and other media who published the truth about 1MDB were.

Likewise, Malaysiakini and other media must bravely help to reform or change the government’s behaviour and attitudes towards better governance.

This article is all about the foundation set up by earlier rogue politicians and practised today.

The undemocratic, unfair, and discriminating laws and policies that these governments are following, are all for their gains and pleasure.

Merely talking and complaining isn’t going to educate and transform these political criminals. The foundation for all these unacceptable behaviours must be abolished.

Anonymous_3f4b: Can you trust all these politicians and their political talk?

Especially the Harapan political conglomerate with their double-talk coming from them professing themselves as holier than thou, clean, and reformists.

They gave the people so much hope for real and effective political changes never seen or experienced before in local circumstances.

But then, nothing came out of it. The more they talk about changes, the more things will be the same or even worse than their predecessors.

No political appointments, they say. That will be the last thing on their minds. Once in power, all previous political promises can be put in the rubbish dump.

Political power corrupts and corrupts absolutely.

Letdown 2018: It is called the spoils of war. If politicians cannot enjoy the benefits when their party wins, what is the point of winning?

It is very easy to criticise and promise the impossible when they are in the opposition, but once in power, the abundance of opportunities for benefits is overwhelming.

Power corrupts and it will be played out till the next election. Scream and shout about good governance, but it will end up the same whoever wins.

Might as well embrace it and work out a win-win situation for both the people and the politicians.

No point in knocking one’s head against a brick wall and hoping for the impossible. Accept reality or be disappointed till the eventual departure from the world.

OrangePanther1466: Nadeswaran, the reality is people need to survive. Your political supporters have expenses to recover. Not everyone is or can be altruistic about politics.

Hence, political appointments are a way to reward your supporters. Nepotism and cronyism are the reality in life.

Look at the US where even their Supreme Court appointments have politics in the equation.

I would say nothing wrong with that per se. It is the corruption and power abuse that is objectionable.

The other is the appointment of incompetent cronies into executive positions in government-linked companies.

So, Nadeswaran, let's not be too quick to condemn.

GreenFalcon2290: It is more hilarious than concerning, that after 20 months there are commentators out there who are writing about broken pledges.

That has been the norm for the past five decades. Only the foolish continue to grasp at those straws.

ABC123: Putting incompetents in positions of authority and power will ruin the country. Why can’t the Harapan government see this?

I will vote otherwise in the next general election if the government does not honour its promises. - Mkini
