A VIDEO detailing how a man was using water from a source not belonging to him has sparked a different sort of debate.
In the brief clip, an unidentified man – believed to be the owner of the restaurant where the water was being siphoned – ranted that a person was regularly using the tap outside a restaurant to wash his car.
The narrator in the video said it was unbecoming behaviour. More so as the person was driving a “luxury” ride in the shape of a Toyota Camry, surely he could afford to pay for a measly car wash.
While such theft is not to be condoned, the narrator saw fit to add a racial slur into the mix by claiming that this was typical of “Type C” (new slang to denote Malaysians of Chinese origin) behaviour.
The video shared by X user UpdateInfo (@update11111) has generated 131,800 views at the time of writing with quite a lively debate among netizens.
Quite a few of them were quick to point out what was the necessity to generalise using race when the restaurant owner should focus on the immoral act of stealing water which transcends racial boundary.
With one saying it would be shocking if race was NOT dragged into the discussion.
While one chided the very type of netizens above as “pious Malays” who will show up to defend “Type Cs”.
On the flip side, there were many who were quite happy to jump on the bandwagon to share their “observations” on the supposed anti-social behaviour of “Type Cs”.
With one insinuating that such behaviour was the wedge preventing a harmonious society.
Whilst some took the opportunity to simply fling racist invective.
Of course, there were many who were able to comment without resorting to racial slurs, noting this unauthorised car wash was simply unacceptable.
One netizen pointed out that this practice of unauthorised car washing was becoming all too frequent.
Whilst another sought to say that such ultra-stingy behaviour was also frowned upon by other “Type Cs”.
One thing is clear from this post and the accompanying comments. There would appear that many Malaysians seemingly cannot avoid filtering everything thorough race-tinted specs.
It is a damning indictment of the state of the nation’s affairs. If social media is a mirror of society, it isn’t a pretty reflection at all at the moment.
